Okay, haseo Opinion time. (its like story time but more sticky)

Quick tweak category:

Change starting stats

20 land. 1 city, 1 nuke plant, 1 barracks, 1 factory, 1 oil rig, 1 metal mine
New tutorial
Reason: New players have only so much time to prepare themselves for greedy bastards. with the current set up they spend so much time figuring out buildings and everything that once their time is up, they be dead 24hours later.

With this "starter pack" along with a re-written tutorial (which i will write if this is implemented) will allow them to get into unit production right away. And on a side note, old players having a new start will force people to make new strategies and make a new challenge since armor will be in the game sooner. and with more starting you might even see more air units being utilized.

Market

Said it a million times. Buy orders, being only a sellers market there is no fixed prices for anything, if people see whats being sold and tell what they are willing to spend prices will auto-regulate MUCH more than they do currently, will also encourage more trading instead of people looking for sellers in the non-existent chat.

New units/ values
Change things up a bit, things are the same old same old, and are getting old.

Declarations

No, a game like this where people do in spare time, doesn't need to tell people when to fight. officers on timers like the original starting reign2.
People will defend themselves or die. force people to come up with new ways to play.

Major changes:

War
Take out armor. makes unit calculation harder than it needs to be for this game.
Possibly add a priority system where certain units will take damage first and move up the list.

Missiles.

MOAR, There should be more types of missiles and a new way to use them. a missile attack should be a new type of deployment like spying is.

Unit re balancing
ive studied what people use and why. I want to re-work the units to make them more balanced and desirable across the board.

navy.

*insert same rant for last 4 years*

Structures

Add new things to the game make new things to do and have fun
Banks- gain interest every hour based on how much money you hold.

Bunker- Units stored here can't be killed but wont defend (like your own personal cache) how ever, they can be seen in spy reports and require a time to pull them out of the bunker and "ready them for use"(Could be breached by a new type of missile maybe)

Missile silo complex - stores x amount of missiles per complex how ever there is no way for someone that isn't the nation itself to see how many (IF ANY ) missiles are in the silo. bringing the threat of missiles to a new devious level.

Embargoes

Prevent people from buying your stuff from the market

Blockades
with naval units prevent people from using the market

Occupation
With naval units tax up to 10% off imports/exports and 5% of total income

I liked most of what haseo said (for a change) Only thing I have issues with is the missiles, not really a fan personally. I dont like your view on decs, but it fits with azzys and flash's so I wouldnt fight it if it happend. Your structure ideas idk, some might work some might not its hard to foresee how they would be used if at all.

'Starter Pack'
Maybe too much? We want to encourage players to expand and develop themselves too

Missiles - only if they're strategic. I don't like how missiles in classic were sufficient to kill an entire army.

Banks - No

Bunker - Something I have come across myself but not neccessary if we have markets the way they currently are

First of all, thanks to everyone here. I appreciate all of you taking the time to give feedback.

In 2004, after a week of insanity, caffeine and messy-but-passionate coding, Reign 1 was released.

Three years later, Mark and I decided that we needed a new core, a new feel, a new look. So, we recreated Reign from scratch in two months; Reign 2.

Now it's time for another fresh start. A new core, a new feel, a new look.

In 2004, I wanted to make a persistent RTS that you could play anywhere. Now, in 2010, I want nothing less or more than just that - a persistent RTS that you can play anywhere. But times have changed. One-third of internet usage is on a mobile platform. If Reign is going to be playable anywhere, it needs to be on mobile devices.

The third Reign, called Reign WS, is currently in alpha (pre-beta) and many of you have already checked it out. It's free to check out and it's fully playable. And the best news is, it's still very malleable and I'm open to ideas about what kind of game it will become.

Further development on the Reign 2 platform is not likely. I want all creative and logical effort devoted towards Reign WS.

I think it's time for a fresh start. And this time, I'm maintaining full control over the code so I don't loose a grasp on the game after its released and, equally as importantly, I'm taking things slow.

Thanks again to all of you,
Ty

That's actually very good to hear. From the code perspective, WS has the advantage. But, it's good that from the player perspective Reign 2's gameplay has strengths over WS.

I'd love it if you could name some of them. Truly, implementation is extremely easy in Reign WS. The hard part is making game design decisions that compliment other previously made game design decisions in a way that makes the game enjoyable.

Knowing if something is fun is easy. Pin-pointing why (or why not) is what takes a bit more time and thought. I appreciate your help.

Main Issue - It's Slow

Quicker Gathering rates
- Metal Mines 12 metal/hr
- Oil rigs 8 oil/hr
- Factory 50 /hr
- Keep the unit prices relatively the same

Bank - accumulate 0-10% interest on income
- Interest the same for everyone?
- Interest a direct result of culture?

Recycling Plants - culture friendly metal: 7 metal/hr

Biofuel Crops for farms(aglae and oil palm etc.) - culture friendly oil: 2-5 oil/hr

Automatic crop and harvest should be available
- Farms give less profit than factories
- Give good culture instead

Make population a resource
- Towns birth 50 people/day
- Cities birth 200 people/day

War Costs
- Population is used to occupy units in war
- 3 oil to deploy

Do not use oil to build units

Less population consumed by structures

Make more land
- All versions of reign have been made where structures use 1-10 land
- Make it so they use 30-40 ... it gives the impression of BIG without being any different

Improve the battle visualization
- atm it looks like a mess, numbers everywhere
- Use the unit icons and SHOW what we've killed

Logs are untidy

War rules
- You can only hit players 66%-150% of your land size

Battle Logs - we want to know who attacked who in the world but keep the death tolls hidden to just those involved in that war

Blood splattered screen - When you log on its hard to see you've been attacked. Make the screen red or something to indicate a battle has taken place

----------------------------------------

Reign 2 is a different game. What I suggested above is in consideration of the game you want reign.ws to be like

"One-third of internet usage is on a mobile platform" - Two-thirds are on pc's :-P

Reign 2 and Reign.ws are available on different platforms. What Reign 2 offers cannot be achieved on a mobile - it's too much to squeeze in such small space

This transition to reign.ws will lose another 50-60% of the playerbase because if you were to set a poll on which game they preferred.. reign.ws or reign 2 - Reign 2 would win because it's both the game they're used to and the game they want to play.

As far as your promise to maintain the game. I look at classic reign, warbrew, and reign 2.. reign.ws will just be the next game to throw in the bin. So why bother playing? for that i'm out...

"So, we recreated Reign from scratch in two months; Reign 2"

Do it again is all I ask, There are a lot of people that love r2 who you are ignoring by "focusing" on ws, it is a diffrent game. Unless you make it like r2 that is. Spending 2 months on a game that you know people love (even if its in its raw stat) vs the at least 5 month still in beta ws will see better results and will prevent the people who are leaveing to leave and the people who come back to look for updates to be happy with what they find. There was nothing wrong with r2 at certain points of its history recreateing something that wasnt broke is better imo then makeing something out of random ideas certain people who you view as us have that dont work well together.

"The hard part is making game design decisions that compliment other previously made game design decisions in a way that makes the game enjoyable"
I can see you struggle with this in ws already. I dont like the battle system is one of my main reasons, it should be simplified not something to master. Most people wont take the time to master it when they die they will leave, if they understand it right away and die for other reasons and understand why I think it will motivate them. I dont like culture and I dont like the research or farms or how the population is set up. and Like flash said, its slow. In my opinion there where to many new things implanted and they dont work well together, and you plan to develop it further which imo will only make things worse just like it did with r2. I know its still in alpha, I tell that to my friends all the time and I do have hope for it but from what ive seen (the core of the game) its not gonna attract the blunt of your current players.

As a side note, if r2 dies Ill go down with it which is why im fighting so hard for it, I dont want to stop playing reign, I want the reign I play.

You say our opinions matter and that your makeing this game for us then make the game that we played. I know you must not like back tracking and each game is a new adventure, but thats not what your player base wants right now I don't think. Movieing forward at the expense of our game (just like r2 did to r1) dont fly well, and like flash said even your loyalest players wont want to play games that will soon after be a thing that no longer interests you.
